A 145 mm glass bottle of preserved botanicals stands on a turned wooden base — the tallest of the forest pieces, and the one that reads across a room. A 110 mm metallic lantern takes a tea light beside it. The rest is for the table, and the board game is what gets opened first.

• The tall stump is the display piece. Preserved botanicals inside protected glass hold indefinitely, so it stays out on a shelf rather than going away with the decorations.
• Two things to open and one thing to play. The dry fruit and the board game are what make this work as a family gift rather than a desk gift.
• The lantern is metal and refillable rather than a wax pour. The 100 g of dry fruit comes in glass with a metal lid, and the candle is beeswax rather than paraffin.
• A recycled kraft box with a printed festive wrap. Uncoated board, no plastic window and no foam, so the whole pack goes into the paper recycling in one piece.
