Eco - The Namah Chest

Three pieces and nothing spare — a lit mandir, a brass ghanti, and a satin-lined chest.

Restraint is the point of this one. An eight-inch preserved-forest mandir with a metal Laxmi-Ganesh pair, lit from within and supplied with its adapter, sits alone on the satin bed. A pure-brass ghanti and a pair of beeswax candles are all that accompany it.

• The mandir is the whole gift, and it is a year-round object. Preserved moss and flowers need no water and no light; the LED runs off a standard adapter.
• Three pieces, none of them filler. Everything here is something a household keeps and uses again — there is nothing in the box destined for a drawer.
• Beeswax rather than paraffin: a byproduct of honey production instead of a petroleum distillate. The botanicals are preserved once and displayed for years.
• Rigid MDF in forest-green rexine, 11 × 10.5 × 4", with a cushioned woven-fabric lid and twin gold lines. Gold foil inside the lid, a fitted ivory satin bed in the base, a brass clasp and twisted gold rope handles.
