A preserved-forest pod with three seed bottles, candles, incense and a board game.

A 30 ml glass vessel on a brown cork base holds preserved moss and flowers, three and a half inches tall — the one piece here that lasts indefinitely. A diya-and-bloom board in a cotton drawstring pouch is what gets opened on the night. Seeds, candles and incense make up the rest.

• The pod is the keeper. Preserved botanicals on a cork base need no water and no light, and it is small enough to survive a crowded desk.
• The board game is what lifts this above its shelf. Ten laser-cut MDF pieces on a cotton pouch board — a gift a family plays rather than stores.
• Marigold, mustard and tulsi in three glass bottles, beeswax rather than paraffin, and twenty incense cones made from upcycled temple flowers.
• A recycled kraft box with a printed festive wrap. Uncoated board, no plastic window and no foam, so the whole pack goes into the paper recycling in one piece.
